Those rejected at this stage are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, have poor grammar or English language, or are outside the aims and scope of the journal. Those that meet the minimum criteria are passed on to two subject matter experts for review. Referees advise the editor, who is responsible for the final decision to accept or reject the article. Should authors be requested by the editor to revise the text, the revised version should be submitted within 3 weeks. After this period, the paper may be rejected.

The journal operates a single blind review process. All contributions will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. Papers deemed suitable are then typically sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers to assess the scientific quality of the paper. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editor's decision is final.
